10th Grade Opportunities
There are many different opportunities for all HHS students. The list below details a few opportunities that we promote annually for our 10th graders.
HOBY - stands for Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership program. This is a national program that Heritage High School participates in. We will nominate one 10th grade student to attend a weekend seminar the summer after their 10th grade year. Students interested in fostering their leadership skills ought to apply.
NC Governor's School - Governor's school is a statewide summer program for students interested in studying an academic or artistic subject in depth. 10th graders are eligible to apply in the arts. 11th graders are eligible to apply in the arts and academic areas. The Governor's school application period is in the fall.
NC School of Science and Math (NCSSM) - The state of North Carolina offers students the opportunity to attend a publicly funded boarding school for their 11th and 12th grade years. This school is located in Durham, NC and offers a challenging and rigorous curriculum rich with diverse science and math course offerings. Interested students apply during their 10th grade year. The application will open this year in November and is due no later than midnight on January 15th, 2014.
Summer Ventures in Science and Math - This is another summer opportunity for students interested in exploring careers and college majors in science and math. This summer program takes place on various college campuses throughout NC. Students apply for the Summer Ventures program during the winter of their 10th and 11th grade years.
